200-Year-Old Rare Kindi Vilakku

An Iruthuri Kindi vilakku is a rare, highly collectible antique ritual brass/bronze oil lamp originating from the historic Muziris region in Kerala, India.

Historically, this specific variant of the Kumbha vilakku (a lamp featuring a prominent, sacred pot or kumbha silhouette) was prominently used by the wealthy tradesmen community of the Second Chera Empire (which ruled between the 9th and 12th centuries CE). Today, it is mostly found as a prized artifact among antique collectors and heritage enthusiasts.
